cording artist; b. Akron, Ohio, Oct. 7, 1911. ASCAP 1945. At twelve, started trumpet. In high school, 1926, as trumpet player won second place in national amateur musician contest. Trumpeter in local night clubs two years. Returned to school, music at Carnegie Institute of Technology; worked his way by playing dance band trumpet. Studied music rudi­ments and voice. Trumpeter with band two years; then a trumpeter and singer in own band, became band leader in motion picture theater, ball­rooms, and hotels. In 1944, trombone replaced trumpet. Wrote Official Corps song for 28th Bombardment Wing, U.S.A.A.F. In 1949, chosen as Ambassador from Pennsylvania for outstanding achievement in his field. Composition, Don Lorenzo Perosi, Director Sistine Chapel Choir, Rome; Gregorian Chant, Monsignor A. Rella and Baron Kanzler, 1904-05. Specialized in Gregorian Chant under Dom Mocquereau and Dom Eudine, Isle of Wight. Organist and Choirmaster, Church of St. John the Evangelist, Phila. 1906-23; Church of St. Paul the Apostle, New York 1923-25. From 1925 until death pro­fessor and director Choral Music at various Eastern Colleges and acad­emies. In 1914, co-founder of the Soc. of St. Gregory of America (office rec­ognized by Pope Benedict XV for the restoration of Gregorian Chant and polyphony in Catholic Choirs). Founder and editor, office bulletin of Soc. of St. Gregory: Catholic Choir­master, 1914-41. Made Knight Com­mander of the Order of St. Sylvester with insignia the Count's Cross, 1928. Liturgical editor for music pub­lishing firms. Rec'd Liturgical Music Award, 1947. Editor, compiler of widely used Sf.
